Description
Biogas is a renewable gas produced from the breakdown of organic matter by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. It is considered a renewable energy source, similar to solar and wind energy. Biogas can be produced from biomass or organic waste, making it environmentally friendly.
Biogas is produced in an anaerobic digestion process by anaerobic bacteria or in a fermentation process of decomposable materials such as agricultural manure, sewage, municipal solid waste, green waste (from gardens and parks), plant material, and agricultural products ، Biogas is primarily composed of methane and carbon dioxide but may also contain trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide, water vapor, and siloxanes.
A New Process Simulation Model (PSM) for Biogas Production
In this project, a new process simulation model (PSM) was developed for biogas production in an anaerobic digestion process using Aspen Plus. The PSM is a library model of digestion that predicts biogas production from any substrate under any process conditions. A total of 46 reactions were used in the model, including inhibition reactions, rate kinetics, pH, ammonia, volume, loading rate, and residence time.
The figure above shows a schematic of PSM. This simulation was done with Aspen Plus software based on the following article.
