Morvarid Pet. Co. Company is one of the largest ethylene producers in Iran, playing a significant role in the country’s petrochemical industry. This public limited company, with an annual production capacity exceeding one million tons, is located in the Pars Special Economic Zone (Asalouyeh).
As a major hub for ethylene production in Iran, Morvarid Petrochemical was established in 2005. Leveraging the technical expertise of Technip France, the company successfully commissioned its ethylene production unit in 2009.
The company’s primary product is ethylene, a fundamental feedstock for a wide range of petrochemical products such as polyethylene and ethylene glycol. With an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of ethylene, Morvarid Petrochemical contributes significantly to meeting the domestic demand for this vital product.
To expand its operations, Morvarid Petrochemical has also ventured into ethylene glycol production, making it one of the largest producers of this product in Iran.
Given the crucial role of ethylene in downstream industries and the importance of domestic production, Morvarid Petrochemical is considered one of the pillars of Iran’s petrochemical industry.
Morvarid Petrochemical Plant Process Units
Ethylene Unit
The ethylene unit is a crucial component of a petrochemical complex, producing lightweight hydrocarbons such as ethylene and propylene. These hydrocarbons serve as raw materials for a wide range of petrochemical products, including plastics, synthetic fibers, and rubber.
The ethylene unit at Mervarid is designed to convert 650,000 tons of ethane annually into 500,000 tons of ethylene. The feedstock for this unit is sourced from the South Pars fields. A significant portion of the ethylene produced, amounting to 340,000 tons per year, is used as feedstock in the ethylene glycol (MEG) unit, while the remaining 160,000 tons will be exported.
Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) Unit
Mono ethylene glycol (MEG) is an organic chemical compound with the chemical formula C₂H₆O₂. It is widely used in various industries as a crucial raw material, The MEG unit in the petrochemical plant is responsible for producing this valuable compound.
The unit has a production capacity of 500,000 tons of MEG per year, along with 50,000 tons of diethylene glycol (DEG) and 3,000 tons of triethylene glycol (TEG). The feedstock for this unit includes 340,000 tons per year of ethylene from the ethylene unit and 368,000 tons per year of oxygen from the utility unit.

Utilities and Off-site Facilities
Morvarid Petrochemical Plant will initially provide its own utilities and off-site facilities. These services will be supplied independently until the full commissioning of Mobin 2.
