Conceptual Simulation of a Blast in an Area with COMSOL

    Introduction

COMSOL Multiphysics is a comprehensive software package that employs advanced numerical methods to model and simulate a wide range of physics-based problems. This software enables you to analyze multiphysics phenomena or coupled phenomena using over 30 built-in modules. Additionally, you can customize the simulation platform with specialized tools and interfaces for electrical, mechanical, chemical, and fluid flow applications.

COMSOL’s add-ons allow you to integrate your simulations within the COMSOL Multiphysics environment with other computational methods. Furthermore, it enables real-time connections with 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.

    Explosion Simulation Project in COMSOL

This project involves a conceptual modeling of an explosion within a specific region using COMSOL software.

    Geometry

Two cubes, one measuring 25x25x5 units and the other 18x7x5 units, are subtracted from each other. The explosion point coordinates are [20,20,0]. The bottom surface is considered the floor, and the midpoint of the 7m side is the center.

    Explosion Modeling

A flame is modeled as a 2mm diameter sphere with a wall temperature of 1000K undergoing an explosion. This sphere is situated in an environment with a temperature of T_inf = 25C=330K.

    Fluid Flow Type

Laminar flow is considered, where fluid particles form distinct layers and move in an orderly manner.

    Boundary Conditions

All walls are assumed to be insulated. The boundary conditions are the surrounding temperatures. There is no need to couple fluid equations with radiation and heat transfer conditions, as the impact of wind temperature on the explosion is negligible at very short times. All results are obtained from the software under various conditions.
